It is with immense pride and profound joy that I extend my warmest congratulations to Nigeria’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to Austria, Dr Florence Ajimobi, on her highly prestigious appointment as the Governor representing Nigeria on the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for the 2026–2028 term. Her emergence to represent the Federal Government on the influential 35-member board, following Nigeria's election during the 70th Regular Session of the IAEA General Conference in Vienna, is a monumental diplomatic achievement. It is indeed a remarkably proud moment not only for Oyo State, where she remains a respected matriarch, but for the entire nation.

This elevation is a authoritative tell of the deep confidence the nation places in Ambassador Ajimobi’s extensive diplomatic experience and her capacity to robustly represent Nigeria in highly technical global discussions. Placing her at the centre of Nigeria's engagement with one of the IAEA's principal policy-making organs ensures that our national voice will be powerfully articulated in critical deliberations concerning nuclear safety and security, safeguards, and the peaceful application of nuclear science and technology. The strategic importance of this role cannot be overstated, as it provides a robust platform to deepen international cooperation and secure vital partnerships that will benefit the African continent and the Diaspora at large.

Beyond that, Ambassador Ajimobi’s appointment significantly bolsters Nigeria’s role in global nuclear governance architecture. More beyond the geopolitics of nuclear security, this role holds immense promise for domestic national development. I am highly confident that under her capable representation on the board, Nigeria will aggressively leverage nuclear technology to support crucial developmental sectors. These include the advancement of our healthcare systems, the promotion of agriculture and food security, efficient water-resource management, and targeted human-capacity development. Her tenure will undoubtedly strengthen the responsible and peaceful application of nuclear science to solve some of our most pressing socio-economic challenges.

On behalf of myself, my family, my political associates and the broader progressive family in Oyo State, I wish Ambassador Dr Florence Ajimobi exceptional success, divine wisdom, and continued grace as she steps into this demanding international role. We are supremely confident that she will effectively advance Nigeria’s positions, protect our national interests, and contribute meaningfully to the policy directions of the IAEA. As she continues to excel as Nigeria's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Austria, her new assignment stands as a towering inspiration to women in leadership and diplomacy across Nigeria and beyond.
